Pride Comes Before a Fall

Sean H. (June 2017)

Introduction

As a background, I ended up dislocating and tearing some of my shoulder on the day of Pentecost. The moment that I dislocated my shoulder, I was not angry. I knew the Lord was signaling that in my weakness, He is my strength. I was growing haughty in my ways because my body was getting healthy again. Pride began to fill within me before the incident. I am not saying that God punished me by any means, but He wants us all to be at a point of humility and rely on Him in our lives. Now more than ever, we should be spending alone time with our Father and Savior for the times soon to come. This dream occurred on Father’s Day.

Dream

In the dream, I found myself back at the local mall of my hometown. Around the mall were announcements that well-known supermodels were coming to the mall for a fashion show. There were men, women, and children flocking into the mall to see these models.

I kept hearing the men saying how they only wanted to see the hot models. The women and children were looking at these models as role models. Husbands kept ignoring their wives as they looked with haughty, lustful eyes towards the female models. All the wives began to gaze at the male models. The children endlessly ignored their parents as they saw all the new clothing lines in the show.

From a distance the models looked gorgeous. They drew me in even though I knew I should not have enjoyed the sight before my eyes. As I moved closer, the supermodels appearance began to change. I could see a depression set in their eyes. Their skin started to sag and their makeup started running down their faces. All their clothing became tattered like rags. The atmosphere felt dreary, as if something bad had just happened. Everyone’s true self was fully exposed for all to see. Each person looked at each other as if they were ashamed of who they really were underneath all the material looks and items.

All the people in the room immediately began to point out the flaws in each of the models, and they began calling them “ugly” in a mocking manner. The children looked dismayed. Rather than innocence in their eyes, I saw only depression. They looked just like their parents did… ashamed.

The sequence of the dream changed in the mall. The fashion show was over. I saw some people of my hometown who are part of the LGBT community. All of them were in their early teens to twenties. As I approached them, their faces displaced happiness as they invited me to talk with them. The group began to speak about Pride Month and asked if I would like to join their parade. I said, “I will not love your sin, but I will love you. For that reason I will not participate.” Their eyes suddenly filled with rage, and they looked at me with bitter disgust saying that I had no love at all. They said, “You have no love for our Pride!”

While in the mall, the sequence changed once again. I then saw people I knew who were addicted to drugs, alcohol, and sex. Their eyes were full of sadness and gloom, yet they had a smile upon their faces as they looked at me. They wanted me to go back to my old addictions. As with the LGBT group, I stated the same words, “I will not love your sin, but I will love you. For that reason, I will not participate.” All the addicts became frustrated with me because I would not join in their ways.

I awoke.

Interpretation:

This was a straightforward dream dealing with Pride. God revealed all the pride that is running rampant in the USA. This dream was revealed to me because of the pride that had begun filling my life as I started relying too much on myself and not on Him. The month of June has been labeled PRIDE Month as if we should glorify the depravity of morality within this nation.

Conclusion:

I believe that we as Believers should look within ourselves and ask if we have pride in our hearts. Pride comes in many different forms, and many times, we are not aware it is a problem. I believe that is important for all of us to reflect and ask Jesus to renew our hearts so we can embrace what He is asking of us to do. Also, ask the Lord to show you any areas of pride in your heart, or in what areas you are moving in pride that you are not aware of. Too often, we justify our sins acting as if we are acting out of good conscious when we are simply following our own desires; this my brothers and sisters is the beginning of pride!

After receiving the dream, I asked God to give me scripture to read in order to confirm the dream. I turned to Proverbs and read all the way through. These are the scriptures that the Holy Spirit resonated within me:

Proverbs 11:2 – “[When] pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly [is] wisdom”.

Proverbs 16:5 – “Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.”

Proverbs 29:23 – “A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.”

Proverbs 16:18 – “Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall”.

Proverbs 8:13 – “The fear of the LORD [is] to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”
