WOW, excellent article Joanie!! Thank you so much for sharing.
This is a topic I finally had the courage to start exploring a couple of years ago thanks to the writings of a Christian blogger, Pam Kohler of Salvation and Survival.
Before then, I had read different things about spiritual warfare like, don’t even open that door or you’re inviting demonic attention/oppression. I now believe that’s a fear-based trick of demons to keep us ignorant.
I certainly believe I’ve got a lot of study/warfare to undergo b/c of my family (curses, most likely), not to mention my own bad choices.
Just on the surface – my father was a high level mason (according to my mother, not sure how high); as a result of my father’s actions/criticism of her Christian faith/physical & mental abuse, my mother chose to become a christian scientist (44+ years, until death); my brother committed suicide 6 years ago. I’m divorced; have struggled with depression/thoughts of suicide which started a few years into that failed marriage.
The suicidal thoughts are gone for the most part since I started studying about spiritual warfare but I still struggle with mild depression and thoughts that no-one will ever want/love me so I’ll never remarry.
I’ve read books on the subject (Charles Kraft, John Eckhardt), listened to deliverance sermons by Derek Prince and others but I’m assuming it’s an ongoing battle for the remainder of our lives?
Do you know if one can overcome demonic influence on their own through prayer and studying the Bible or is it necessary to seek out a pastor or someone more experienced?

Hi Diana,
Thanks for asking. In fact, I am very glad that you did, because everything you said, unfortunately is the cry of millions of Christians we see every day. They look like you and me. They smile on the outside and go along with the cookie cutter examples of other women, and thus never open up about what is really going on. Ask me how I know. Satan has millions fooled into shutting up and make “as if.” I had to go after deliverance on my own. I too read the same books and tried reaching out to pastors who were completely NOT interested in any deliverance. I do know that if you are going to reach out to any pastors for this, my advice to you is to do your investigating into who they are. At any rate, like you, my family was steeped in all kinds of generational blood line curses, and occult. I had to go after my deliverance on my own, but that is my story. The reality Diana, is that you can start applying everything you know and do it aggressively. And do not stop. I too have to maintain my position as delivered. Also, note that not everyone gets a swift deliverance. Most of your deliverance happens in stages, because the Holy Spirit will use each stage for your education. Education is the power. You see, God can deliver you in one swift move. He does it for some, but the majority He does not. The reason is because He could, as I just said deliver you. But then you will never know how to stand your ground, execute His righteousness, power and laws against the enemy. I have come out of a lot and I know what I am talking about. Please do not feel that you are some failure in the spiritual things because of things around you, people who fail you, and other losses. Give the Lord room to move and work. I believe that you have the victory and it will be tangible. and it is in a sense if you adhere to Hebrews 1:1. you are welcome to stay in touch! Shalom to you!
