That’s really interesting that you have found this John, I was aware of this some years ago and was given a document (unable to locate at this time) explaining the occult nature of the NZ Nursing medal. Whoever designed the medal had an intimate knowledge of occult symbolism. It is hardly surprising given also the symbol used for medicine (the Caduceus), being two serpents entwined around the winged staff of hermes.
