The Christchurch Call
Jacinda Ardern and Emanuelle Macron have called for a forum around mid-May in France to address a way to deal with extremist views on the internet. They have invited the big Tech companies to attend including Mark Zuckerberg. The plan is to look at dealing with terrorism and violent extremism online. This in and of itself does not sound so bad but, how will extremism and terrorism be defined and who will be targeted in the future as a result of setting this plan in motion? Given the way in which “far right” white extremists and “Christian terrorists” have been targeted in the Main Stream Media with scarcely a mention of Muslim terrorism, who will end up being demonised as a result of this forum? I would suggest that this will be worth watching closely over time to see what eventuates and how extremism is defined.
