Barry Rumsey Smith (10 May 1933 – 27 June 2002) was a Christian preacher and author from New Zealand. Smith travelled extensively preaching throughout the Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and around the world. He wrote eight books with the theme of end times prophecy. His writings also appeared in his monthly newspaper Omega Times.

To be honest it wasn’t a good thing but I have survived. I owned at least 2 of his books if not three of them & in the end we survived 2000 & I gave it all up & got rid of the books promising that I would not get involved in all that stuff again as I was a basket case. He meant well as did others at the time but frankly it wasn’t good for my personality type. I am a lot stronger in my faith these days & able to cope with what may come soon. My family are concerned as they see me going down that same old road again…

I think in many ways Barry Smith was on track, but he tried to squeeze things to fit a time frame that was just too early. I heard him a couple of times at least in the 1980s- early 90’s. I always remember him saying that he thought Henry Kissinger might be the antichrist. Well Kissinger is still going strong and still has the antichrist spirit- but he is not “the” antichrist. I also remember being very irritated one day when he talked about how Christians needed to “look” like Christians. Wear a suit and tie and get a haircut. Those were the days in which I wore hippie clothes and patched jeans to church.
