What Stand Should Christians Take On Sasquatch?
What Does The Bible Point To Regarding Sasquatch?
Now to the business end of this article!! I am a Christian and I view the world through the lens of the Bible. I believe the Bible is the Word of God and imparts to us God’s knowledge, wisdom, love and guidance, and chiefly that God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to us. Through His death and sacrifice on the cross and the forgiveness that He offers us, He redeemed us from our sin by nothing that we can do of ourselves, and restores us to our rightful place with our Father God.
Please bear with me as I take you through my thoughts in the area of Sasquatch. You may not necessarily agree with my ideas, but I ask that you give them some consideration, even if you just park them to one side as interesting, but unproven.
A few years ago, I managed to complete my first reading of the entire book of the Bible, I was so pleased to have done this as it gave me a clear overview of God’s Word, cover to cover. I was able to see God’s plan and the detail of that plan condensed into 66 books. From Genesis to Revelation there is an overarching narrative that is unmistakable. From the perfect creation, the fall of Adam & Eve, the interference of Lucifer leading to Adam and Eve’s fall, and the battle that has played out ever since. God has planned a redemption for mankind in the form of His Son, providing the perfect atonement for our sin. This can only be the plan of a gracious and loving creator. Clearly there is no redemption for Lucifer, however, there is a process that God is working through in order to allow Satan to have his day in court, and the opportunity for all mankind to receive God’s offer of redemption through Jesus as our Lord and saviour.
Satan has at every point tried to muddy the waters, attempting to interfere with and prevent the birth of Jesus, he failed at that, so he now goes after those that will most interfere with his plan to take all of mankind from God, denying all those alive, the opportunity of being reconciled to God. He’s not too bothered about the Godless world, he has that already, but he is worried about the Jewish people, he knows God has not yet finished with them. Have you ever wondered why Israel is under such merciless attack from the whole world and who is showing his hand in this situation? Satan is also very concerned about Bible believing Christians whose job it is to spread the gospel of salvation. Bible believing Christians are his greatest threat, they can, with the aid of the Holy Spirit bring people out of bondage and spiritual blindness, by talking about God’s love for them, and through scripture, reveal the truth about mankind’s state and our true purpose. However, I do believe the Holy Spirit does the real heavy lifting with people, revealing the truth of their own individual circumstances, and the truth about the fallen state of the world.
I hope this is making some sense as I build a picture for you.
In reading Genesis 6, we know things must have been desperately bad for God to destroy all living creatures on earth. We also know that the incursion of the fallen angels and their interference with mankind seemed to precede God’s judgement on mankind, and the living creatures of the earth. If you read The Book of Enoch, it would seem that the fallen angels possibly went beyond human genetic interference and may have extended this to the animals, birds and fish. Afterall, why did God extend his destruction to all creatures that had breath on earth, rather than just humans?
By the way, as an aside, I do not hold The Book of Enoch as God inspired scripture, but as an interesting historical text.
We also know that the Giants were on the earth after the flood, as stated in Genesis 6:4. There are many scriptures that tell us about these giants and their strange appearance. Namely that they were of huge stature and some having six fingers and six toes, they also had incredible strength. 1 Samuel 17:4-7 tells us Goliath, a Philistine giant had a spear whose shaft was like a weaver’s beam (extremely sturdy to carry a large iron spearhead), his spearhead of iron weighed around 15 pounds, his armour of bronze weighed around 125 pounds. Goliath himself was approximately 9 to 10 feet tall and of incredible strength to carry the weight of the armour, and throw a large very heavy spear.
So, you might be asking “Matt, what does all this have to do with Sasquatch”? Well, the connection between Goliath and Sasquatch is that they both possess (possessed in Goliath’s case) huge stature and massive strength. However, there is more. Goliath was a Philistine; he was a descendant of the Phoenicians, and the Phoenicians were descendants of the Amorites and Canaanites. These were some of the tribes of people that occupied the “Promised Land” (also called Canaan), prior to the Israelites taking their “God promised” inheritance in that land. In Samuel 21:20 (the reference to the 6 fingered giant), the end of the verse says that the individual was born to the giant (or raphah), When researching the word raphah ,I found this reference in Strong’s Lexicon. It points to the word raphah being defined as a giant or Rephaim, Rephaim being one of the tribes that inhabited Canaan. So, I believe Goliath was a descendant of the Rephaim, one of the tribes of giants that gave opposition to the Israelites coming into the promised land after exodus from Egypt.
Okay, let’s do a little more digging, and in so doing will return to Genesis 6.
The Nephilim.
This chapter tells of the “sons of God” (high ranking angelic beings) who took for themselves the daughters of “men” and bore strange children to them, they were described as the Nephilim (the fallen ones), the mighty men of old, men of renown. The chapter then references that God saw that the there was great wickedness and evil continuously on the earth. At this point God decided to take massively drastic action, He was going to destroy all living creatures that drew breath on the earth on the face of the earth. Why such drastic action? I believe it goes back to Satan; where he directly interfered with Adam and Eve (KJV); however, God made a pathway for mankind to be redeemed from their transgression, he also included animals as part of that plan. Satan then set about the next phase of his plan to destroy and attempt to defile the lineage prophesied to bring Christ as the redeemer of mankind.
Satan used the fallen angels to bring corruption to the human gene pool, creating the Nephilim. The consequences of this was wickedness, evil and violence continually. There is a bright spot here in that Noah found favour in the sight of God, he was to be spared (along with seven other members of his family) the judgement apportioned to all other earthly creatures. God then asked Noah to build an ark and God brought an assortment of animals to Noah, instructing Noah to keep them alive aboard the ark. It is my speculation that God sent uncorrupted animals to Noah to be preserved aboard the ark, I also believe that the animal gene pool had been corrupted and that is why God sent animals that He had specifically chosen, just as he had chosen Noah. Satan had done his worst and had nearly been successful in destroying the Adamic lineage, it is my speculation that some of the nightmarish creatures that have been unearthed in the fossil record may have been the result of this genetic tampering with animals.
Genesis 6:4 also tells us that the Nephilim were on the earth after the flood. I know that there is a lot of debate as to how they came to be on the earth after the flood, however, God’s word tells me that the Nephilim were there after the flood, and although we are not told how or why, my simplistic thinking says that there was another angelic incursion, if they did it once they could do it again. I believe that Satan was working again to corrupt the human gene pool and create chaos and evil amongst humans. There are many scriptural references to giants and their rebellion against God, I’m not going to get in to detail here other than to provide you with a list of links to scriptures, many of which refer to the Nephilim tribes and giants after the flood – Giants in the Bible 1, Giants in the Bible 2, Bible Verses About Giants. These will provide you with ample references to what scripture says about these creatures.
Biblical Cryptids.
There are strange creatures mentioned in the Bible, some of those are creatures like Behemoth and Leviathan, but there are also other strange entities mentioned. It is my speculation that fallen angel manipulation of animal DNA continued after the flood, although to a much lesser extent. In the post flood scripture, there are accounts of creatures that seemed to be part human, part animal. It is not altogether clear what these creatures are and there is not a lot of detail, but nevertheless they are referenced and further investigation reveals that they are likely satanic in origin.
There are two of note, the Satyr and the Lion Men of Moab. The Satyr is mentioned in number of bible passages, Isaiah 13:21, Isaiah 34:14 and Leviticus 17:7. The Lion Men of Moab are only mentioned once in 2 Samuel 23:20. It is not clear as to what these Lion men were, but they were not lions as the scriptural reference indicates that after Benaiah had killed the two Lion Men, he then went on to kill a lion. My speculation is that these two Lion Men may have been human animal hybrids, however the scripture is not clear on this. The Satyr is a much more interesting beast as it is a part human part goat, it is a figure mentioned in Greek and Roman mythology, although the Canaanites worshipped goat demon deities mentioned in scripture. Satyrs were companions of Pan (more on Pan soon) and were known for their sexual excesses and carousing. From their description they could certainly be seen as a human animal hybrid and a demonic entity.
There is an old pagan place of worship at the base of Mt Hermon in Israel. It is called Pan’s Grotto or the Gates of Hades. It was the site of occult and pagan worship of the god Pan for many centuries, and was known in the time of Jesus as Caesarea Philippi, it had a reputation for its seriously debased pagan sexual practices. It is mentioned in Matthew 16:13-20 where Jesus took his disciples to the region of Caesarea Philippi, in Matthew 16:18 Jesus spoke these famous words “upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it” The Book of Enoch Chapter 3:5 speaks of 200 fallen angels that descended to the summit of Mt Hermon. It’s interesting that there are a lot of connections to be made in the area of Mt Hermon.
Here is an interesting Theological Discussion from The Theology Pugcast entitled Biblical Cryptids, this is from a Christian perspective and is worth listening to (by the way, I do not support the work of Michael Heiser briefly mentioned in this video).
Who was Pan? Pan is a minor god in the pantheon of gods, like the Satyr, he was half goat half human. He was the god of the woodlands and indulged in sexual excesses and carousing. He notably had the power to create “great fear” and “panic”, and had the ability to “teleport himself”, he also had “great strength”. Hmmm….. where have we heard these characteristics mentioned? Is it any coincidence that Pan’s description is like that of Baphomet? Baphomet being the embodiment of Satanic and occultic worship, a winged creature with a goat’s head, a hermaphrodite, both male and female. This creature certainly qualifies as a cryptid figure and animal human hybrid. Satan likes to pervert God’s creation any time he can.
The Final Plan.
Ultimately, Satan failed in his plan to irreversibly pollute the genetic line from Adam to Jesus, and stop the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the redeemer and saviour of mankind. However, Satan did not, and has not stopped in his quest to destroy mankind. I believe that he has had to change his direction a little, but still continues to attempt to prevent people from realising and understanding that Jesus sacrifice has enabled us to be restored to our rightful place with God. He also wants to stop the prophetically important restoration of the Jewish people back to God, after their rejection of Jesus some two thousand years ago.
I believe that we are living at the end of the age known as the last days, “the birth pangs”, this is the time period spoken of by Jesus in Matthew 24 and 25.
But Matt, I thought this article was about Sasquatch………. Where are you going with this!!? Please bear with me as I attempt to connect the dots to show how these things may be related.
Where was I? Oh yes, “the birth pangs”. We are now living in a time period prior to the return of Jesus. Satan is having his last gasp. He is now looking to establish his man the Antichrist, otherwise known as the Beast. This period of time is spoken about a great deal in the Bible, from the book of Daniel, the book of Revelation and numerous other scriptural references. This is a time that is unparalleled, there has not been a time like it or will ever be again. Satan is pulling out all the stops, God is allowing him to have his day in court. Although Satan would have you believe otherwise, he is a created being and can only use the resources God has made, he can’t conjure up and create resources, he has to use what God allows him to. In saying that he needs people, financial and material resources, access to technology and scientists to wage his campaign against God and mankind.
Satanic Deception.
Satan is the deceiver, he is the ultimate deceiver, that is no compliment. Genesis 3:1-5 shows him deceiving Eve into disobeying God’s command, Revelation 12:7-9 tells us he is a deceiver of the whole world, he is the temporary god and ruler of this world and blinds the mind of unbelievers from Jesus, and has power over the world.
2nd Thessalonians 2 is a fascinating Bible chapter and ties in a lot of my belief around what is happening today and how Sasquatch ties in. Paul is reassuring believers that the Day of The Lord has not yet come as there were letters circulating at that time that said it had. Paul goes on to outline the conditions that precede the Day of The Lord. He speaks about the “Apostasy” or falling away from faith (by the way, I don’t believe that this is the rapture). I wonder if there will be a significant event or a number of significant events that cause Christians to question their faith and depart from it, this is purely my speculation but possible. The Antichrist will also be revealed at this time (this ties in with Matt 24:15) and I also believe that we as Christians will know who he is. You need to remember that John had not written the book of Revelation at this time, so it was a bit of a precursor tying in with Matthew 24–25, Mark 13, Luke 17:22-37 and Luke 21:10-36.
The Restrainer.
Paul goes on to talk about the “Mystery of Lawlessness that is already at work” and is under restraint by the “Restrainer”. Who or what is the restrainer? I believe the restrainer is the Holy Spirit, and that currently the Holy Spirit holds back Satan and the flood of evil, deception, destruction and chaos that he would bring upon the earth. Paul goes on to say that the restrainer will be removed and we will see the Antichrist arise, working with Satan in a very powerful way to produce signs (attesting miracles) and false wonders.
What thing will cause the very foundations of people’s faith to be shaken? What things does the Holy Spirit restrain from being unleashed upon the earth? There are going to be many terrible things unleashed upon the earth at this time, and there is a verse in Luke 21 that speaks to the effects of these terrors on men. Luke 21:26 (NKJV) is a curious verse for me, I have no doubt that when people see massive upheaval, war, destruction, earthquakes, unhindered evil, chaos, and terrifying signs in the heavens, this would surely qualify to make men’s hearts fail them from fear. But I also have another thought and speculation regarding this verse. I believe that we as Christians are going to endure some form of tribulation prior to God pouring out His wrath upon the earth, however we are not destined for God’s wrath (Orge in Greek) as Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:9. We are still around for Revelation 6 and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse; however, we are gone by Revelation 8 and are spared the opening of The Seventh Seal and the outpouring of God’s wrath with the Trumpet Judgements.
Therion, The Wild Beasts Of The Earth.
In Revelation 6:7-8 we read of the Fourth Seal being broken which brings Death, a rider on an Ashen horse or Pale horse. As part of this, authority was given to this rider to kill with the sword, famine, pestilence and the part that piques my interest most in relation to this article, is the last part where the rider on the Pale Horse will also be allowed to use “The Wild Beasts of The Earth” in Revelation 6:8. What does this mean? If you look at the root Greek word for beasts, it is the word Therion. Therion is the same word used for the Beast/Antichrist that comes up from out of the abyss in Revelation 11:7. Is there a connection here? Is there something that is common to them both? Is the beast of Revelation possibly an animal human hybrid? That this entity is mentioned as coming from “The Abyss” seems to be a strange thing. Are the beasts of the earth mentioned in Revelation 6:8 in some way connected to, or a hybrid similar to those things that were around in Genesis 6? Do they both (beasts of the earth, the Beast) have some form of hybridisation giving them supernatural superhuman abilities? I don’t know, but in joining the dots from Genesis to Revelation, I believe it is worth considering this idea.
Daniel Chapter Two And The Seed Of Men.
Just before we go on to pulling this information together, it is worth mentioning Daniel 2:43. This chapter for the most part is about God giving Daniel the interpretation for Nebuchadnezzar’s dream about a great statue of gold, silver, bronze, iron and feet of iron mixed with clay. In Daniel’s description to Nebuchadnezzar Daniel outlines the timeline of kingdoms that will precede God’s final kingdom. In verse 43 he relays a picture of the final stage of these kingdoms and I believe that it is the times that we are now living in. It is possible that I have this entirely wrong, but there is an interesting reference to something, “they” (in the scripture), attempting to combine with the “seed of men”, seed being a reference to genetics, offspring, descendants. “they will combine with one another in the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another”. Who or what is the “they” and what is the “attempted mingling with the seed of men”? My speculation leads me to ask if this is a third attempt by the fallen angels to pollute or genetically tamper with the seed of men looking to produce a further Nephilim race, but ultimately failing to do so. This is purely my speculation, but given what is happening in this world today, my thinking does go there.
Let’s pull together some of these ideas.
Conspiracies Of Secret Lawlessness And Plans Of Chaos And Destruction.
Much of my thinking and speculation from a Biblical perspective on what I think Sasquatch may be, relies heavily on Circumstantial and Anecdotal evidence. In looking at Satan’s plans for his war against God and mankind, “the secret power of lawlessness” sums it up. Satan has a covert plan to subvert God’s plans and bring as many of mankind down with him. We see right from the beginning of scripture in Genesis 3 that Satan employed deception against mankind to thwart God’s plan. Again, in Genesis 6 with the fallen angels coming to earth, breeding with human women and creating the Nephilim. Genesis 6 tells us these Nephilim were also on the earth after the flood. These fallen ones were the offspring of the fallen angels, they were gigantic in size with strange physical attributes such as 6 fingers and toes. This account is best mentioned in Numbers
If the Book of Enoch is correct, the fallen angels also genetically tampered with animals, this may have been part of the reason that God stocked the ark with all the animals. In Leviticus 19:19 God stated clearly that He did not want the Israelites crossbreeding cattle or mixing seeds, or indeed mixing things, was this in part a warning about what may have come from genetic experiments? Satan had 400yrs to set up his Nephilim hordes in the Promised land and this is worthy of study in its own right. Needless to say, God went before the Israelites when they came in to take possession of the land to wipe out the armies of satanic hybrids.
Here’s a small homework assignment for you. The Israelites did not completely wipe out the Nephilim tribes as God instructed. Is there any correlation between the disputed territories in Israel today and those Nephilim tribes not wiped out?
Satan’s Goals.
Satan has not slacked off in his plan to disrupt God’s plan. He failed to take out Jesus’ bloodline, so he’s now working on his final phase. I believe that Satan has been secretly working on a lot of different projects (remember the secret power of lawlessness?) for this final phase. What are some of his main goals? I believe that he is intent on the destruction of mankind, I believe that he intends to try and stop Christians from spreading the message of the gospel, I believe that he intends to try and stop God from fulfilling his promise to the Jewish people.
The Great Deception And The Time Prior To The Return Of Jesus.
Jesus tells us in the passages of the Olivet Discourse (Matt24/25, Mark 13, Luke 17&21) that this will be a time of great deception. In Matthew 24 Jesus starts the discussion by saying “See to it that no one misleads you”. It’s the very thing he opens his statement with, he also makes this statement another three times (Matt 24:5, 24:11, 24:24). Clearly Satan will be doing some of his finest works of deception. In Matthew 24:21 and Mark 13:19 Jesus tells us that this will be a time of unprecedented tribulation never experienced, that’s a serious statement. Jesus all so tells us that it will be “Just” like the “Days of Noah” and the “Days of Lot”, (Matthew 24:37-39, Luke 17:26-27 and Luke 28-30). I believe that this is no accident for either account. What was happening in the Days of Noah? Referring back to Genesis 6:5 and 11 we see that fallen angelic incursion to create the Nephilim, it was a time of great evil, chaos and violence, and very likely the genetic tampering extended to animals. If that is so, then I believe we are again in a time of great evil, chaos and genetic tampering with mankind and animals.
Thank you for your patience if you have made it thus far, I hope this has been at least interesting if nothing else. Next comes the final instalment, Part Four. In part Four I attempt to pull everything together to show that Sasquatch is a little more than just a Relic Hominid. I also ask the question as to how we as Christians should be approaching this creature called Sasquatch. Should we be going out to investigate this creature? If we have an encounter with Sasquatch, what should we do? These things and more in the final instalment of “The Sasquatch”.
All scriptural references will be the New American Standard Bible 1995 unless otherwise stated.
