Best Charities?

Does anyone have any charities they recommend and why? Once you donate to one charity (e.g. Hurricane Harvey relief) you end up being inundated (just completely overrun!) with mail soliciting charity donations. It's hard to know who you can trust to use the funds appropriately. What's really frustrating is realizing that when you donate to a charity they share (sell?) your contact information with everyone else!
